I am sitting here at this new cafe I just stumbled upon – yes there are still some – and the owner is the quiet unassuming woman who seems to know everyone on the neighborhood. Just a minute ago, she was having a conversation with some young man – not sure how one gets to this topic – about the eight years she was a soldier in her country during a civil war. She tells the story with great care, pride and some sadness.
The young man she is talking with asks her if she ever killed anyone.
Now we are all listening in this cozy, small, five-table cafe
She simply responds, "yes."
Then adds that she tells her story to her kids and they are well-behaved.
