There are certainly some places where I AM the techie pop-culture king.  When one attends as many meeting as I do with folks who are currently part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) it aint hard to be "the one in the know."  Nothing bad about it, it is what it is.  Slowly changing, but still, not hard to be hip there 😉

And then there is Mission Bay Community Church where folks think I am as dialed in as they are.  Ahh the sad face of disappointment and shock when folks realize how very uncool, unhip, unplugged-in I am.  Maybe it is a way to tell me that I may be slowly turning into one of the those old dorky pastors who means well, but really shold stop trying to be one of the cool kids.  Sad, just sad.

Three cases in point, edited to protect the innocent and make fun of the old . . . me.

EXAMPLE #1 // Conservapedia

HER: You know, Conservapedia?
ME: blank stare of ignorance
HER: WHAAAAAT?!?!?!?
HIS INSIDE VOICE: Poser.

EXAMPLE #2 // Barcamp

HIM: You have heard of "Barcamp" right?
  ME: blank stare of ignorance
  HIM: WHAAAAAT?!?!?!?
  HIS INSIDE VOICE: Loser.

EXAMPLE #3 // BRC

HIM: You do know what "BRC" means, don’t you?
  ME: blank stare of ignorance
  HIM: WHAAAAAT?!?!?!?
  HIS INSIDE VOICE: Dork.

THE pièce de ré·sis·tance

Sent to me on today on facebook from Stacey Markham, student at Elon and member of Colesville Presbyterian Church in Silver Spring, MD

I
am doing a research paper on Facebook. I am trying to discover the
reasons that older generations are joining Facebook. Additionally I am
trying to find out … if they continue to join are younger generations
going to leave Facebook and find another outlet where only young people
have profiles?
Sooo i was wondering if you would mind sending this link to all of your adult friends on Facebook? It is completely anonymous.
If you want to talk about it let me know!

Oh and these are just the ones I remember.  There have been plenty more.  Darn kids.  I guess it was bound to happen.  I wonder when my AARP subscription comes and I start chasing kids  away from the house for walking by and yelling, "that guy smells old."
