Does the Ooze have any standards at all?
Apparently the Ooze does not have standards - at least not high ones - because I am on some list of people that are being sent free books in the hopes that I review and blog about most of them. Of course all it took was a blog posting from the Adam Cleaveland, a technorati authority over 50 and a quick eMail to say, "Sure, I'll read free books" and voila, I am one of 50 book-reading, blog-spewing narcissists. Hey I call 'em like I see 'em ;-) Did I mention these were free books?
While will never be as sweet of a reviewer as Mr. Copeland, See his most excellent review of Tony Jones' New Christians, I will do my best to give you some reason to buy it now, wait until later or don't bother.
I am about 3/4 of the way through the first book, Pete Gall's reflective memoir, Beautiful Idol. Should be done with it in a few days and will post something next week.
I just received in the mail four more books and a CD. Not sure what
I'll start next, probably the one with the coolest cover ;-) Yes, and
I also choose my wine by the attractiveness of the label. Sue me. My choices are from the following:
- Feel: The Power of Listening to Your Heart
by Matthew Elliott
- Porn Nation: Conquering America's #1 Addiction
by Michael Leahy
- Hokey Pokey: Curious People Finding What Life's All About
by Matthew Paul Turner
- We the Purple
by Marcia Ford
- Songs for a Revolution of Hope, Vol 1: Everything Must Change
CD by Brian McClaren and The Restoration Project
So if you have any thoughts about what I should read next and/or have a great idea for a creative rating system for movies, books, ect. feel free to drop a note.

That makes two of us, Bruce. My pack is awaiting me in Decatur next week. Clearly, they've set their standards low, but it's nice to be in good company.
(My technorati authority is still lacking, actually, but apparently they can smell a church nerd from an ocean away.)
I'd vote for a review of Porn Nation as what I did study re the porn industry really freaked me out. Did you know the US porn industry is bigger than the US pet industry?
Maybe, actually, we in the church of different persuasions could all agree to tackle the problems related to the porn industry together. We could all band together and unite. Maybe....nah, it'd never happen;)

I'm working on We the Purple right now....should be posting about Gall's book next week. So far so good with the purple book, not that you have to read it first, but it is poignant with so much election stuff going on.

I knew the Technorati authority was good for something... free books, I guess!

Dear Bruce,
I highly recommend you read Feel the Power of Listening to your Heart. It will change the whole way you read the Bible and challenge you in your faith in a whole new way. Glad you like the cover-I thought it was really cool too.

Adam - Curses. I am going to look like schmuck next to you. Seriously. Now I really have to have a Kick-A rating system ;-)
Tyler - That is the one i am thinking about starting this week. Looks very cool.
Ryan - Hey, if you too want a free book, let me know and I'd be willing to share.
Laura - Thanks for the Rec.

actually Mike has a very sophisticated matrix for picking his "select bloggers". i think he cross references - hair style, CPSI (carson postmodern scale index) and number of times you google your own name in a given week... thanks for taking the time with the bag of books.
