It is a little after midnight and I have just checked into my room where I’ll spend the next few days on study leave here at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, CA.  I’ll fill in more about the actual event that I am attending – The Racial Ethnic Advanced Pastoral Study Seminary (REAPS) –  but I first wanted to acknowledge the surroundings.   I know it does not need to be said, but I am not a big nature guy.  While I can fully appreciate creation in a spiritual, creationy kind of way, I am not all that into hiking and outdoors kinds of activities that do not have a score-keeping component.  Still, whenever I come to Asilomar I am awestruck by the beauty of the ocean, the feel of clean air and the architecture that screams simplicity.   Yes, I know there is some irony that I am blogging via my wifi card, in the midst of it all, but I am not on vacation, just a few days of study leave.  At least that’s my story and I am sticking to it.

And for an added bonus, Bambi comes to visit our meeting room.
