UPDATE: 12.31.08 Byron's Request for Feedback.

Seems like it is as good a time as any – or NOT – to follow up on my last Moderator Monday post which touched on a nerve somewhere, to go ahead and ask, "How am I doing?"  Much has been said about me thus far: I could be a congenial dictator or a leader of the Joshua Generation but through it all, I blatantly refuse to tuck in my shirt.  I have heard words both mean-spirited and kind and, on my better days, I hope to take it all in with grace, humility and the proverbial grain of salt.  Still, I think it is important to get feedback from folks since there is no real place of direct accountability for the Moderator.  Sure, there is the OGA and Commissioners from the 218th, but the freedom with which Moderator's can speak, act, dodge and engage can both be a blessings and well, you know . . .

So . . . let me have it ;-)  How have these first 6 months gone, what has been good, what has not and what would you hope to see/experience out of the office of moderator in the future.  Please feel free to leave your comments here or go ahead and blog about them and leave a trackback or link in the comments.  Now, of course, you can simply say "amen" to any of the above evaluations of me thus far if you like, but if it helps, here are some questions that would be helpful for me.

  • In 250 words or less describe the tone, impact, presence I have had as moderator thus far into the term? What has been helpful?  Unhelpful?
  • What have been my general strengths? Weaknesses?
  • In what aspects of my term have you found joy? Disappointment?
  • What has surprised you about my term?
  • What are you still trying to figure out about me?
  • What would you like to see continued or increased?  Stopped or lessened?
  • What are your hopes for the office of Moderator in the next 18 months?

Now obviously, I while I do listen and take seriously everything that is shared, I hope you understand that this is not a cause and effect kind of deal.  Your input, thoughts, affirmations and concerns are helpful as I strive to be faithful to this calling to which I have been called, but will not be taken – from those with whom, I disagree or agree – as new marching orders.  Think if this more as a being part of a group of folks offering up your impressions and experiences so I can make good choices about what I shall do and how I shall be in the future as your moderator.  I will try to engage the comments as much as possible, but depending on the tone, might be better for me to simple let the dams open and let the waters flow where they may.

Thanks in advance and have a great week
