No, I’m not giving up Social Media for Lent. My 2013 Lenten discipline is to give thanks to God for those who have helped me to grow into who God intends for me to be and become. See all of my 2013 Lenten Thanks here.
As we have learned with three children, the middle kid hardly ever gets to go first or last. So this day’s thanks and the final one of my offspring is for Abby AKA known as “Junkyard Piglet — she may be cute, but don’t get too close as she may bite.”
While we hope to instill common values in our kids, our daughters manifest these commonalities in different ways. Like her sisters, Abby has a sense of fearlessness, empathy and adventure, but she expresses these things in very different ways: activities, friends and self. She has an intense desire to do well in what she does, she cares deeply about the success of those around her and she does not have the need to venture far from home to be her independent self. Our sweet and feisty middle child is a reminder of the diverse ways in which God proclaims personhood in the world so for the joy that God has brought me in the personhood of Abby, I am grateful.
Today I give thanks for my daughter, Abby.
