No, I’m not giving up Social Media for Lent. My 2013 Lenten discipline is to give thanks to God for those who have helped me to grow into who God intends for me to be and become. See all of my 2013 Lenten Thanks here.

Why yes, I will be thanking God for some inanimate objects that have shaped and formed my understanding of my life and experience of the world. A few years ago, thanks to a generous gift from my last church, I bought myself a camera. While I had dabbled in some photography years ago – back when there was this thing called “film” –  I was a newbie when it came to using a full-on SLR digital camera. Equipped with a good used Canon and a solid general lens, I have found myself seeing the world with a new perspective . . . a new lens if you will. Seeing the world with new eyes and new perspectives has reminded me that the world, in fact, must be looked upon in such a way, otherwise we may miss out on some of the wonder that God has placed before us.

So, as odd as it may be, today give thanks for the joy of photography and my camera.
