Tuesday evening I hop on a red-eye to Louisville, KY for the 2013 Presbyterian Church Big Tent gathering. Big Tent is an all-church gathering that my denomination, the Presbyterian Church (USA), holds every two years and unlike our biennial General Assembly, Big Tent is a gathering of 10 conferences sharing in group worship, common workshops and fellowship galore . . . AKA no items of business to vote on at this shindig.
As one of the few times where I get to interact with Presbyterian friends – IRL and Online – I hope that we will bump into one other at some point during the festivities. I am sure there are some tweet-ups being planned as well as random gatherings in hotel lobbies, local watering-holes and convention center hallways.
Here is my public dance card as it now stands:
NATIONAL ASIAN PRESBYTERIAN COUNCIL
Wednesday evening and Thursday morning
I believe you have to pre-register for this pre-gathering, but if you are interested in some conversations around Asian Americans and the PC(USA), this is a fun and thoughtful group of folks.
YOUNG ADULT RULING ELDERS CONVERSATION
Friday morning, 10:00-11:30 at the Convention Center, Room 116
During our time, I’ll be part of a conversation about how to best support, encourage and structure for and with Young Adult Ruling Elders. With a mix of Young Adults and not-so-young adults, I expect our time will both be theoretical and as well as practical. Hope you can make it for the conversation. This is part of the National Elders Conference at Big Tent, the group that covered my expenses for this year’s gathering. Thank you!
BUT I DON’T SEE YOU AS ASIAN BOOK-SIGNING
Friday afternoon, 1:00-2:30 at the Bookstore in the Exhibit Hall
There will be available at the bookstore or if you have already bought your copy on Amazon, feel free to bring it by. Facebook Event Page
PANEL AND CONVERSATION ON RACE IN THE PCUSA
Saturday morning, 10:30-noon at the Galt House, Grand Ballroom A
Moderated by Nancy Benson-Nicol with opening remarks by Sterling Morse, panelist include: Linda Valentine, Executive Director, PMA; Gradye Parsons, Stated Clerk of the GA; Arlene Gordon, President, National Black Presbyterian Caucus, Teresa Chavez-Sauceda, Teaching Elder and Chaplain Resident, UC Davis Medical Center; Marcus Lambright, Member, Cross-Cultural Young Adult Caucus.
I have a variety of other coffees and conversations scheduled, but please feel free to share other gatherings, booths, etc in the comments. Basically use this as a place to leave some shameless plugs for your Big Tent festivities.
The official hashtag for the event is #bigtent2013 and if you love the snark and wit, you should follow #bigtentafterdark, curated by @landonwhitsitt and others. And I’ll be tweeting from both @breyeschow and @brc_live if you care to follow me.
See you in Louisville!
