#40WordPrayer on Disagreement — Bruce Reyes-Chow

#40WordPrayer on DISAGREEMENT

And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds.
— Hebrews 10:24

When my family causes frustration; my friends, exasperation;

leaders, distrust; and strangers, disdain;

God, help me not to respond so that conflict and division increase

but to answer with care and graciousness

so that we may grow into whom you hope and intend us to become.

Amen.

There are a few ways to respond to online nastiness. The easy route is to remove them from view by “unfriending” or “unfollowing” them. It’s incredibly satisfying to send a passive-aggressive zinger. Or, scorching them by dropping f-bomb-laced air raids of comments that question their intellect and ability to walk and chew gum at the same time, which feels really good, at least for a moment.
