#40WordPrayer on Distress — Bruce Reyes-Chow

#40WordPrayer on DISTRESS

In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong-doing.
— Job 1:22

God, when I’m in distress sometimes

I just don’t understand.

Why me?

What did I do wrong?

Why won’t you help?

It is in these times when I struggle

to see you, to hear you, to know you.

But I will try to trust you.

Amen.

But what about those times of distress where the blame is not so easy to place or when there is no logical or reasonable explanation for any of it? It’s frustrating, and it reminds us that we do not always know the “whats” and “whys” of life. These are the times when we must simply accept that we don’t and won’t always know, but yet we must do our best to move forward shrouded in the mystery of God—no easy task.
