#40WordPrayer on FAITH
For if Abraham was justified by works,
he has something to boast about,
but not before God.
— Romans 4:2
God, your grace is not extended to me
because of what I have achieved, what I have done, or what I have said.
In fact, in spite of my thirst for wealth,
my actions that bring pain, and my words that inspire hate, you love me.
Too often we do unto others the exact opposite of what we are promised by God: love, grace, and presence regardless of what is offered in return. While we should not remain in unhealthy or destructive relationships, we cannot fall into the trap that relationships are based on a currency of behavior. In the end, we must do our best to extend grace, love, and presence freely—even without a “please” or a “thank-you.”
