#40WordPrayer on Grief — Bruce Reyes-Chow

#40WordPrayer on GRIEF

Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress;
my eye wastes away from grief, my soul and body also.?
— Psalm 31:9

My heart hurts beyond words.

My body sheds tear upon tear.

My soul cries out in pain.

God, help me not to rush my grief;

let me hold it as long as I need

and let it be loosed when the time is right.

Amen.

Because we see grief as a problem to be fixed, we don’t allow people to move at their own pace. We try to force people through stages. We project our own process or discomfort onto others. We forget that we all grieve in different ways. Sometimes, we simply need to give someone room to do so.
