#40WordPrayer on HUMILITY
“The trees once went out to anoint a king over themselves.
So they said to the olive tree, ‘Reign over us.’”
— Judges 9:8
When I don’t know everything, the wise guide me.
When I can’t do everything, hands support me.
When I can’t get through anything, communities care for me.
God, remind me that when I don’t always know the way,
through the acts of others you make the way known.
In later years my uncle and I laughed about that day. While I was clearly wrong, I was young, so the laughter was all the apology needed. As adults, we are often unwilling to admit that we don’t always know the answers. Even when we are made aware that we might have been mistaken, apologies are hard. At the end of the day, if we are to grow in mind and spirit, we must seek and accept help, and when we are wrong, admit it.
