#40WordPrayer on Imitation — Bruce Reyes-Chow

#40WordPrayer on IMITATION

Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me,
and observe those who live according to the example you have in us.
— Philippians 3:17

God, I am your creation, wonderfully, lovingly, and uniquely made.

But you have created others, those who help guide the way.

Help me seek out and imitate those who live as you intend

with hope, with wisdom, with justice,

with creativity, with conviction, with compassion,

with laughter, with love.

While imitation can be the highest form of flattery, it can also be the ways we perpetuate the best of human expression in the world. I know that I am formed by those who model God’s hopes in the world. I am impacted by them and do my best to blatantly copy what they do. This is not about worshiping others, but seeing them as angels of sorts, imperfect vessels of God’s hopes and intentions for the world.
