#40WordPrayer on Learning — Bruce Reyes-Chow

#40WordPrayer on LEARNING

God has given me the tongue of a teacher,
that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word.
Morning by morning he wakens —
wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught.
— Isaiah 50:4

Don’t worry, God, I have it all under control,

I know what I’m doing, I’m done learning, and I don’t need to listen.

Do I?

God, help me to be more teachable today

than I was yesterday

and to be more teachable tomorrow than I am today.

Amen.

There are still times when I find it difficult to admit that I may need help. Somewhere deep down, I still feel that asking for and receiving help somehow communicate weakness and are detrimental to my work. Intellectually, I understand the opposite to be true. Seeking and accepting guidance only strengthen what I do and are signs of confidence and security. I am not always driven by my intellect. Shocker. Sometimes, I just don’t want help.
