#40WordPrayer on Mercy — Bruce Reyes-Chow

#40WordPrayer on MERCY

O Lord, I have heard of your renown,
and I stand in awe, O Lord, of your work.
In our own time revive it; in our own time make it known;
in wrath may you remember mercy.
— Habakkuk 3:2

In times of deep conflict and passionate disagreement,

God, show me the way, your way.

When I must be firm, God, let me be just.

When I must be strong, God, let me be compassionate.

When I must stand in judgment, God, let me be merciful.

Amen.

Choosing revenge and retribution is to walk a path paved by insecurity and fear, whereas to choose mercy is choosing a road paved with confidence and compassion. In our individual and collective lives, may we choose a path of mercy.
