#40WordPrayer on Story — Bruce Reyes-Chow

#40WordPrayer on STORY

“It was this Moses whom they rejected when they said, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ and whom God now sent as both ruler and liberator through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.”
— Acts 7:35

When I feel alone and have lost my way, God,

whisper the stories of those who have come before:

family who has sacrificed much,

friends who have extended love,

and strangers who have been surprisingly present.

Let their stories give form to my own.

Amen.

One of the ways that we can listen for God’s calling on our future is by remembering God’s movements in the past. Stories told and crafted well give texture to our memories and insight into what we do now. Some stories help us to move through failure and disappointment, while others help us keep perspective about success and achievement. Stories help keep everything in perspective so that we can balance the urgency of today with the knowledge that others have persevered before us.
