Catch like a girl

So what if it is fake - curses Gatorade - this video is pretty darn awesome and whoever said we can't be inspired to great things by images and actions that are slightly beyond our own imagination?

And as long as we are watching funny baseball videos, check this one out. Worth every bit of the 59 seconds. I promise . . . "And that happens."

Opening Night 2008

There is something about Opening Night in baseball.  Last night Eldest and I went the A's home opener with dad and Junie against those dastardly Boston Red Sox.  Eldest is still learning the etiquette of baseball rivalries.   Every once in a while she would leave over and ask me if it was okay to "boo".  As I kept telling her, "Outside the ball park, we must see Christ even in Red Sox fans, but once we enter the field of play, they are the enemy. No mercy my sweet, no mercy!"  She thinks her dad is wacky.

Even though they lost 2 to 1, this year should be pretty exciting.  At least it will not be as DREADFUL as that other team that shall not be names.  Gads.

Let's go Oakland.

Spring training means nothing, but . . .

Yeah, yeah, spring training means nothing.  Tell that to the Giant's who got SPANKED by the A's yesterday, 23-5.  Poor Barry Z.  I am still trying to get to know who everyone is on this year's team, but I am actually pretty jazzed about a rebuilding year and proof, once again, that Billy Beane is a GENIUS!

Little hint for other GM's.

Don't trade with Billy or sign people we have let walk.  Just saying.

2008 Baseball Wisdom from Bruce

Last year I made a pretty good case for, Why Jesus Would Play Baseball, so I don't feel like I have to rehash that, so for the 2008 season let me make a few judgmental and inflammatory statements.

  • Like a good cult-follower, I trust Billy Beane to the ends of the Earth or at least to the end of October.  Our chant goes something like this with Kool and Gang's "Celebration" playing in the background.
Rebuilding is good for the soul.
Rebuilding is good for the soul.
Rebuilding is good for the soul.
Rebuilding is good for the soul.
  • Baseball stories are so much better than all that college basketball crap.  I was giddy when I opened up Today's SF Gate with no less than five baseball stories.  The skies opened up and everything.
  • Not sure that that other Bay Area team is playing or getting ready to play, but it sure ain't the national pastime.
  • Jesus still does not like the Yankees and I must say that last I talked to him, the BoSox and Angels are moving up the list.
  • Fremont does not exist in my universe.
  • Small markets ROCK!
  • Fake nacho cheese IS baseball.
  • Mt. Davis sucks.
  • The A's win the World Series in 6.
    I didn't say what year ;-)

PLAY BALL!

For Thought

  • Quote "Peace"
“Peace it does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.”
  • Benediction
Thank to all who have asked for this. This is a compilation of many different benedictions that I have heard throughout the years, no originality claimed, just some great opportunities to share it.

    Go forth into the world
With compassion and justice in your heart
    Give voice to the silent
    Give strength to the weak
    See one another
    Hear one another
    Care for one another
    And love one another
    It's all that easy
    And it's all that hard

Now may the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ
    The love of God
And the power of the Holy Spirit
Be with us all, now and forever more
    AMEN
