Blog Map 10 - V

Blogmap10_reyeschow

This week's installment of BLOG MAP 10.

Starting Blog:
One of the very first church/religion/culture bloggers that I really got to know was DJ Chuang.  I don't even remember now how we met, but he helped me get settled and moving as I began this blogging journey.  I think it was a couple of years before we actually met face-to-face in the DC area.  My plan is almost complete as he has relocated to California, albeit, Southern California.  NorCal is calling my friend, bwaahaahaa!  DJ's blog is worth subscribing because he artfully navigates the places where church, culture, technology intersect.

Here it goes . . .

  • Starting Blog #1 // www.djchuang.com
  • Blog #2: // IndyChristian // Indianapolis Christian site.  Cool concept, but wait for the dude that starts talking to you.  Kinda freaked me out a bit.  A TON of content.
  • Blog #3: // Wireless Coffee Tech // Couldn't resist.  Another Indianapolis-based blog.  This one gives some tech advice.
  • Blog #4: // U.B. Bloggin // I am stuck in Indianapolis and I can't get out ;-)  This blog seems to be about the ministry of a cool little Indy bakery.
  • Blog #5: // Damita // The blog url is addictedtochrist.blogspot.com.  My first reaction was , "Really? Should we be addicted?"  But interesting that this blog is one that is addressed towards thos with addiction issues. Still in Indianapolis. Dead end, no outgoing links.
  • Blog #6: // Brothers Brick // RESTART - Switch gears for all you Legoheads out there.
  • Blog #7: // Ty // And just like that, back to Jesus.  Man, we're EVERYWHERE!
  • Blog #8: // Karl Bastian // AKA the Kidologist, an interesting post on the Golden Compass.
  • Blog #8: // Top Left Pixel // Great name and some nice images.  A blog that gives you a Daily Dose of Imagery. I like this one, not sure why. And a dead end.
  • Final Blog #10: // Savage Chickens // RESTART - Because chickens on post-its are ALWAYS funny, especially when playing Scrabble.

Happy wanderings

Blog Map 10 - IV

Blogmap10_reyeschow

This week's installment of BLOG MAP 10.

Starting Blog:
I know many a sleepless night you sit awake at night wondering, "Where is there a juggernaut of Presbyterian Church (USA) bloggers?"  Well sleep soundly because we begin this installment of BM10 over at Presbyterian Bloggers.  And to its credit it appears that there are folks from all over the theological spectrum here.  And who says we are slow to embrace new technologies?

Here it goes . . .

From Presbyterian blogger list to an Italian Comic Festival.  The world is a different place.

Happy wanderings

Blog Map 10 - III

Blogmap10_reyeschow

This week's installment of BLOG MAP 10.

Starting Blog:
This week I decided to start with a blog that I read quite a bit for my social networking.  Influential Marketing Blog by Rohit Barghava is worth subscribing to as the posts are solid, informed and will give you much of the content and analysis of most social media area, or at least all the ones you need to know about. Plus, not that numbers are all that, but RB has over 4000 readers via feedburner.

Here it goes . . .

  • Starting Blog #1 // Influential Marketing Blog
  • Blog #2: // The Viral Garden  // I am seriously in techno-media-marketing land.
  • Blog #3: // Customers Rock // More about bathrooms in the latest post that you even knew you needed to know.
  • Blog #4: // Servant of Chaos // I am seriously our of my comfort zone, not because I don't understand the words, but feel like there are some references that I just don't get.
  • Blog #5: // Comfortable Disorientation  // More of a personal blog.
  • Blog #6: // The Happiness Project // Interesting project blog. Not quite what I was expecting.  Interesting 12 commandments.
  • Blog #7: // LoobyLu // Cool header graphic.  Awesome that I began where I did and am now at a craft blog. 176 comments on the latest post.  Nice.
  • Blog #8: // Whiney // Yet another nice header and a blog with some quick, pleasant posts.
  • Blog #8: // Wee Wonderfuls // Nice look, lots of crafts, nics pics
  • Final Blog #10: // My Little Mochi // One word, Monster-Cupcakes.  What wonderful pictures.

Happy wanderings!

Blog Map 10 - II

Blogmap10_reyeschow

This week's installment of BLOG MAP 10.

Starting Blog:
Welcome Jud Hendrix to blogland.  Jud is the pastor of Covenant Community Church in Louisville where the tag line is quite possibly better than nothing, and is one of the most thoughtful and creative religious folks I know.  He has always asked good questions and pushing in meaningful direction.  He has FINALLY entered into the blogosphere with two blogs, Out Beyond Ideas and I Wonder.  These are both in the early stages, but thought I would give him some lovin' anyway.  Please stop by and tell him Bruce, that crazy SF geeky pastor sent ya!

Here it goes . . .

  • Starting Blog #1 // I Wonder // This is Jud's more spiritual blog.
  • Blog #2: // Laurie Griffith // Uh Oh, dead end.  No outgoing links AT ALL
  • Blog #3: // Vox ex Machina // RESTART - Vox is a great political blog that keep you up to date on grassroots issues dealing with race, violence and generally all things that are easy to forget about.  This one is definitely worth subscribing to.
  • Blog #4: // i reserve the right to be hostile // How could I NOT click on this one.  Rapid writing style, makes me feel old, but interesting commentary.
  • Blog #5: // TrinityVA // Good stuff, makes we again remember how activist minded I used to be ;-)
  • Blog #6: // Brownfemipower // Not sure my girls are ready for this right now, but someday I hope they capture the same passion around issues of justice and race.
  • Blog #7: // Ethnically Incorrect Daughter // Posts about adoption, politics, and race.
  • Blog #8: // Ungrateful Little Bastard // One of the coolest header images and Cranky Girl would be a hoot of a dinner guest.  More adoption community posts.
  • Blog #8: // Fleas Biting // Seems like a pretty new blog, but Wow!  Take some time to read the story.  Bummer, again, no outgoing links.  Grrrrrrr.
  • Final Blog #10: // Jake Bouma // RESTART II - Okay, imagine that, two dead ends.  If you want to get the word out, link love people, link love! So I'll end with the latest blog release from Jake Bouma and his Four point oh!  I don't even remember how I got to know Jake, but there is some good stuff there.

Observations

  • Shiny witty names still attract my attention;
  • There are some great female bloggers out there that need to get more notice;
  • There are some differences between those who have been doing in for a while and newbies;
  • I love being reminded of so many subcultures and passions in the world;

Happy wanderings!

Blog Map 10 - I

This is the first installment of this hallowed and genteel game.  If you would like to play along be sure to follow the BLOG MAP 10 RULES OF ENGAGEMENT.

Here it goes . . .

  • Starting Blog #1 // UbuntuCat // Solid, thoughtful and engaging writer on pop culture, social issues and Ubuntu.  I can understand two of those three topics on any given day.  I'll give you a hint, the one that sounds like crazy talk starts with an "Ubun" and ends in a "tu."
  • Blog #2: // Hari's Corner // Wow, stepped into some serious techno something.  One of those times where I understand some of the words separately, but put them together and nothing.
  • Blog #3: // Ray's Place of Stuff // Social commentary and general rants.  The Barnum Effect post was particularly interesting.
  • Blog #4: // Creative Hedgehog // Tech-leaning commentary on all kinds of stuff.
  • Blog #5: // Dave.Punk.Emo // Exactly.  Great images. "A Christian guy who . . ."
  • Blog #6: // More From the Can // More faith oriented and asks some good questions.
  • Blog #7: // This guy must hate himself // Wowza is all I have to say.
  • Blog #8: // themolks // A personal blog, fun to browse.
  • Blog #9: // Death by Children // A little too much going on visually on the blog, but clearly FUNNY.
  • Final Blog #10: // I still don't want to talk about it // Not a big fan of the black background, but hey fun stories.  I mean really, how often to get to hear about Viking Funerals?

A couple of observations from this round of Blog Map 10:

  • I am attracted to quirky link titles;
  • Not all link titles are the actual blog names;
  • Mean-spirited anonymous comments are not cool;
  • Sometimes comments come from folks who don't have obvious blogs;
  • People pretty much have opinions and expertise about freaking EVERYTHING.  Ain't it great.

Happy wanderings!

Blog Map 10 // The Rules of Engagement

Blogmap10_reyeschow If you have never heard of this game you surely are living under some techno-rock. Blog Map 10 is an ancient ritual passed down throughout the generations: if by "ancient" means I just made it up in my head and if we are counting "generations" from the perspective of a Mayfly.

But I digress . . . here is the real deal.

Because I have nothing really to occupy my time, I thought I would try something new.  I have always been fascinated by the variety of thought and experiences that are out there in bloglandia.*  What could be a better way to experience some of the wonder than to follow some link breadcrumbs and see where one ends up.

I am sure that someone  else has done this already, so I didn't bother even looking to see.  No doubt someone will take the time to let me know that I have ripped of their idea.  Sue me, I'll send royalties ;-)

BLOG MAP 10 RULES // Starting on a known blog, simply click through 9 more blog links via blog rolls and comments.  Observe and enjoy a whole new blog experience.  Kind of a backwards 10 degrees of separation exercise.

Well thought out rules are as follows:

  1. Start by clicking to a blog you know;
  2. Click on a blog from that blog's blog roll or comment area, if it doesn't go anywhere, go back and find another.
    Legalistic Side Note: Be sure not to click on a blog that is referenced in or is the subject of a specific post.  Why?  No reason. Rules dammit, the world needs rules!
  3. For each blog, list the outgoing link title in case anyone wants to follow this blog map;
  4. For each blog give a brief first impressions;
  5. Repeat steps #2-#5
  6. After you have visited 10 blogs, drop some observations;
    NOTE: Alter or deviate from these explicit directions at your own risk.

Try it you'll like it.  And be sure to send me a trackback request.   Links are love.

Happy wandering!

For Thought

  • Quote "Peace"
    “Peace it does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.”
  • Benediction
    Thank to all who have asked for this. This is a compilation of many different benedictions that I have heard throughout the years, no originality claimed, just some great opportunities to share it.

    Go forth into the world
    With compassion and justice in your heart
    Give voice to the silent
    Give strength to the weak
    See one another
    Hear one another
    Care for one another
    And love one another
    It's all that easy
    And it's all that hard

    Now may the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ
    The love of God
    And the power of the Holy Spirit
    Be with us all, now and forever more
    AMEN
