Stushie on CNN this weekend

1 2

Okay, so today must be a day for congrats and helping to spread the word about folks who are getting some visibility and recognition for doing their thang.  You know me, distracted by shiny things so please don't assume or read anything into my props to folks.

So, some of you know Stushie.  So how cool is this?  His political/religious cartoons are being featured this week on CNN.  Pretty darn cool if you do ask me.  No Stushie and I disagree on many thing political and religious, but I have found him to be a pretty stand up guy, so whether or not you will agree with him and his assessment, I could him as a invaluable part of the discourse.  He blogs over on the Presbyterian Bloggers site and the cartoons can be found at Pushing the Envelope.

For more info including broadcast times, [CLICK HERE].

Congrats Mrs. Morgan Cullen

Seriously this blog is not turning into a video link blog, but you know, it is what it is.  I think that is is very cool to see folks doing well in areas that they love.  We know Morgan, so want to give her some props about her new hosting gig on THAT MEDIA SHOW.  She has her designs at morgancullen.com and also blogs at RunwayDaily.  Not only is Morgan doing really well following her passion about fashion, modeling and acting, but mostly importantly she is just a great, faithful, cool person!

Congrats Morgan!

Are you an editor that wants to change the world?

This looks pretty cool.  This is a job as the Managing Editor for the new Social Change blog to come out from Change.org.  There are so many of you bloggers that are great writers and editors, why not get paid AND help transform the world?

The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the worlds deep hunger meet. - Frederick Buechner

Just a few nice tidbits . . .

Change.org’s Managing Editor will lead an effort to hire and oversee a team of several dozen expert bloggers who will be writing about the most important issues facing our world – ranging from global warming to hunger to health care.

Applicants should have experience in the nonprofit/activist space as well with blogging or journalism. Otherwise, we encourage anyone to apply – regardless of age or location. We’re more interested in someone who can take this position and run with it than someone who fits a particular mold.

You can see the full job description and contact info on idealist.org.

Too old for an ethnic identity crisis

If you have not heard of this new blog, Stuff White People Like, you might be living under a blog rock.  I have been seeing this blog being referenced all over the freaking place.  I figured, OK, let me go and see what the big deal is.  After all, I have 3 1/2 White people living in my house - well make the 3 5/8 of you count my 1/8 Spanish blood, but that's for another day - so I should know, right?

Oh no!!!!!!

I may just be White.

Or at least we are now defining all upper-middle-class educated urban hipsters as White.

This is freaking funny!

And true.

Welcome to MBCC.

Jokes people, jokes ;-)

One good Flip

Capturedata78 "Flip"  has been used in many ways in talking about people from the Philippines* **.  In this case, however, I am talking about my newest tech toy, the Flip Video.  With Comp USA going out of business, I picked up this little gem a few weeks back for 25% off.  You simple shoot the video and plug it into your computer ready to upload to wherever.

Yes, video is THAT easy.

It comes in a 30 and 60 minute version and is about as big as fat deck of cards.  If you saw the video from my last post, it handles the job just fine!

* Also known as Pinoy/Pinay, Pilipino and Filipino over the years, for more info see the Urban Dictionary's entry for Flip.
** No matter your take on the term, if you are not Filipino, you are not allowed the use the term, just FYI.

Cool Neighborhood Website

Screenshot_1 Not sure how I first heard of this neighborhood site, Every Block.  I think it was The Corner - the guy who is my supplier for all things new and cool -  but I was hit today with a google alert because someone reviewed MBCC.  After poking around a bit, I was immediately impressed with the amount of info, the layout and the feel for the site.

So here is what you do . . . type in an address, any address, and Every Block produces a list of things such as: Building Permits, Business Reviews, Crime blotter, etc.  It grabs info from all over webland and brings it to your doorstep or eMail or RSS feed, whatever you prefer.  While I am not sure that I REALLY want to know how much crime is in my outwardly safe neighborhood, at least I not have the choice not to pay attention ;-)

SF Bay Area Abolitionists Meet 2nite

12.01.07 UPDATE: Great follow-up post with some good links from Vox en Machina.

Notforsale
www.notforsalecampaign.org

This is totally last minute, but if folks can make it, GREAT!  If you are not from the SF Bay Area, check out the campaign, odds are there is a chapter near you!  Hope to see you there!

Line

What:
The first Abolitionist Coalition meeting of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Where: Cafe International is at 508 Haight Street (cross street Fillmore)
When: The meeting is this Wednesday, Nov 28th at 6pm.

Why: It’s time for all the Bay Area abolitionists to meet each other! We’re calling on all faith communities, university/law students, business leaders, NGOs, governmental leaders, and any individual to join the Not for Sale Campaign at Café International this Wednesday evening.

The Not for Sale Campaign is aiming to build the Abolitionist Coalition meeting into a monthly affair where Bay Area abolitionists come together to coordinate action to combat human trafficking and modern slavery in the San Francisco Bay Area.

We apologize for the short notice time. In the future we’ll definitely give a greater head’s up time, but we think it’s best to get the first Coalition Meeting in before the holidays really rev into high gear.

Any questions please feel free to contact me Mark Wexler.

Austin, here I come

Screenshot_1Tomorrow, bright and early I am on my way to hang out for a week with some of my favorite people in the world.  Known as the Young Urban Pastor's Gathering or YUP, this is a group of folks have have provided me over the years with a place to decompress and rejuvenate.  This year we are spending the week in Austin, TX and expect to have a grand time.  We will welcome in a few new folks  and continue our tradition of fun, food and fellowship!

A few thoughts to begin my trip:

For Thought

  • Quote "Peace"
“Peace it does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.”
  • Benediction
Thank to all who have asked for this. This is a compilation of many different benedictions that I have heard throughout the years, no originality claimed, just some great opportunities to share it.

    Go forth into the world
With compassion and justice in your heart
    Give voice to the silent
    Give strength to the weak
    See one another
    Hear one another
    Care for one another
    And love one another
    It's all that easy
    And it's all that hard

Now may the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ
    The love of God
And the power of the Holy Spirit
Be with us all, now and forever more
    AMEN
