UPDATE: As of July 1 and my Election to be Moderator of the Presbyterian Church (USA), I will no longer be writing for Asian Week. Sometimes there really can be too much on the plate.
Here is a complete list of the columns that have been published by Asian Week as a part of the Beyond Borders series. I am one of four columnists that have been asked to write on one of four non-traditional Asian American issues: youth, Black/Asian, GLBTQ and religion.
We could spend time arguing about definitions, generational trends,
or my blatant disregard for many liberal Asian American Christians, but
let’s not delude ourselves. If you were to visit random Asian American
churches in San Francisco or any other city, you would go far and few
between as you seek out those of a more progressive flavor.
This is pretty much a no-win because religion and spirituality are
essentially an individual expression of one’s connection or
non-connection to the divine. There are no right or wrong answers, only
experiences. With experiences, we get passion, conviction and
disagreement. We also get silence.
