Here is a quick shot of one of our bookshelves with some POTUS flare. Far from a presidential expert, my favorite book by far is Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. If you have not read this one, it is a great telling of how Lincoln’s political savvy and personal strength helped to bring together rivals in a way that would be hard to imagine happening in today’s political climate.
The others books: Living History, The Clinton Wars and The Audacity of Hope may be predictable to some, but I like to think of my “keep on the shelf” choices as consistent with my politics and ideology. And hey, as my mother will attest to, my favorite president growing up was Richard Milhous Nixon . . . and Checkers.
And lest anyone think that we are no longer committed to cynicism and snark, you will find nestled in the mix Lela Lee’s Fairy Tales for Angry Little Girls and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Book) Teacher’s Edition: A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction.
So, what books are on your American Presidents reading list?
