UPDATE 01.31.13 – Pastor Apologizes For Snide Remark On Meal Receipt

Bell…said her notation on the receipt was a “lapse in judgment that has been blown out of proportion.” Despite scratching out the tip added to the bill, Bell claimed that she left a $6 tip in cash, adding that she subsequently discovered the 18 percent gratuity had been charged to her credit card.

Not sure that I completely buy the remorse, but I am glad to hear that Pastor Alois Bell has spoken to the act. I also find it interesting that in many of the posts, the assumption was that the “pastor” was a man. Interesting.

I do not swear all that much, but church people tend to bring out the worst in me.

So here it goes, cover your ears, “What the Frak?!?!?”

I give God 10% Why do you get 18

And then this pastor zeroed out the tip altogether. Are you kidding me?

“I’m sorry” just doesn’t seem to cut it, but to the server who was stiffed, “I’m sorry.”

For the record, we’re not all like this pastor. Not only have I NEVER witnessed any of my pastor friends write “pastor” above their name on a receipt – weird – but many of us tip generously because we know that people in the service industry: food servers, hotel workers, etc. often make a good percentage of their living via tips. So thank you for serving our food, parking our cars, steaming our milk, cleaning our rooms and doing all the stuff that many “pastors” probably couldn’t or wouldn’t do themselves.

And again, “I am sorry.”

I just tipped my barrista 50% in your honor.
