No, I’m not giving up Social Media for Lent. My 2013 Lenten discipline is to give thanks to God for those who have helped me to grow into who God intends for me to be and become. See all of my 2013 Lenten Thanks here.
Going out of sibling order *gasp* today I am thankful to God for my eldest daughter, Evelyn. She makes me laugh at random stuff, she challenges me to think more broadly and she is way smarter than me. Could it be that it was nearly 17 years ago that Ev came into the world? It is hard to believe that in just a few years she will be off to college – there will be no tears there, I’m sure – to further live into God’s hopes for her life.
Over the years, as I have watcher her grow, her awareness of others around her: family, friends and strangers, has been a constant reminder to me of what it means to be family and community. This one does not suffer fools gladly . . . at all, but in the end, her natural inclination to grab her great-grandmothers hand, to say a kind word to her parents without prompting and her enthusiasm for life can’t help but to make me a better person; and for this, I am grateful.
Today, I give thanks for my daughter, Evelyn.
