No, I’m not giving up Social Media for Lent. My 2013 Lenten discipline is to give thanks to God for those who have helped me to grow into who God intends for me to be and become. See all of my 2013 Lenten Thanks here.
As I shared earlier, my early formation as a human being was greatly influenced by my public education experience. Today, I lift up the a community that has continued to help me grow as a person, a parent and a human being — my daughters’ public school here in San Francisco. Beginning in 2001 with our oldest daughter, this school – where we joke that Halloween is “high holy day” because everyone goes all-in – has created a space where its students and larger community are challenged to embrace a broad understanding of learning, creativity and community. Not without our divergent views, personality conflicts and organizational issues, I have found this community to be one that – at its core – is about finding a positive way forward that strives to honor all voices and perspectives — and for this reminder and reality instilled in my children and myself, I am grateful.
Today I give thanks for my daughters’ school.
