#40WordPrayer on SECURITY
“If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him,
and the Romans will come and destroy both our holy place and our nation.”
— John 11:48
God, we live with suspicion.
We build walls, we lock doors, we hunker down,
we hoard our resources, we live in fear.
In our yearning for safety and security,
remind us that you call us to go out into the world
and not to protect ourselves from it.
Too often we act as if there is danger lurking around every corner. Our stuff can be stolen at any moment. Everyone is working some kind of scam. Sure, these things happen and we need to be wise in our interaction, but if we default to the idea that the world is essentially out to get us, we run the danger of setting up barriers that ensure that we will never really be connected to the world—at least not a world that can expand our understanding of the breadth and depth of God’s created and creation.
