LECTIONARY, YEAR A
September 3, 2017

If you’re stuck in your worship planning process, here are some short prayers for your use.

Call to Worship: Exodus 3:1-15

One: When stormy waters are engulfing whole communities —
ALL: God, here we are.
One: When words and acts of hate are given room to flourish —
ALL: God, here we are.
One: When we are paralyzed by our own complicity, exhaustion, or unknowing —
ALL: God, You have called us into this space yearning for Your movement, energy, and understanding — and so here we are.

Confession: Romans 12:9-21

God, in a day when love is not always known, forgive us for those times when we hold fast to what is evil, and let go of what is good. For those times when we repay evil with evil and further the cause of hate through our words, our action, or our inaction, forgive us. And for those times when we leave no room for the movements of your transformation, give us the courage to trust. AMEN.

Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 105:1-6, 23-26, 45c

Remembering the miraculous works of God, let us have the courage to live into the forgiveness that God extends to us and rejoice. AMEN.

Prayer of Dedication: Gospel Matthew 16:21-28

God let our offerings this day be gifts of liberation and not stumbling blocks to action —
let our gifts lift up those who yearn to be lifted
let our gifts give power to those who only know powerlessness
let our gifts move others forward, even if it means we fall behind.
And let us, together, experience the fullness of your community. AMEN.
