Update: Holden Village, the 40-Day Fast for Gaza, and Productivity

A quick check-in for subscribers and friends

I hope you are doing well and finding moments of deep meaning and joy amid a world that is feeling pretty heavy on so many fronts.

You may have noticed that I have not posted significant writing in a bit. I am sure the lost paid subscribers are due to a lack of content, so I apologize for not being as productive as I had intended. Thank you to the paid subscribers who have been hanging in with me through the seasons and rhythms of my writing life. I will soon be posting a Paid Subscriber personal update, so have not been forgotten.

So what has been keeping me so busy?

First, the 40-Day Fast for Gaza has taken more energy than I imagined it would. Even though I am not doing the 250-calorie/day fast, this Ramadan-structured fast has played games with my energy and focus. While I have found profound meaning in the fast, the next time I do it, I will find a daily routine that is more compatible with my work/family life. Please see the post where I have been sharing all of the updates.

The other reason that I have not written as much is that I have been poking back into video creation. The 40-Day Fast for Gaza has allowed me to dive back into vlogging, which I had forgotten how much I enjoy. I will be creating more videos in the future, so if you have any ideas about what I may cover, please feel free to share. In the meantime, I would appreciate any and all subscribing, following, liking, and amplifying that you are able/willing to do:

This past week, I also had the privilege of being faculty for a week at Holden Village, a Lutheran Retreat Center in the North Cascade Mountains. Despite the feat that it was to get there — two-hour plane ride, four-hour drive, two-hour ferry, 45-minute bus — it was well worth it. It is a place whose commitment to and continuity of expression of justice, inclusion, and curiosity are deeply ingrained and genuine. I had also planned to be super-productive during my free time, but alas, fasting, video creation, and the nature took center stage (photos below).

As for what is next, I am hitting the road for quite a bit of Summer speaking [schedule], we are beginning to record the first official season of The Amalgamation Podcast [pre-season episode], I am discerning a couple of book projects, and most-importantly, now that I am home, I will be joining as many public actions as I can around immigration, Palestine, and injustice!

So there you go, just some quick updates. Life is certainly not slow, but I'm trying not to burn out. We all need to be present for the long term so we must faithfully find joy, rest, and renewal, so I will get done what I can, when I can, and I hope you are doing the same.

Again, thanks all for your patience and support. Your eyeballs and dollars help me keep doing the itineration thing, and I appreciate all the ways you offer your support!

Peace,
