January has been a rough month for the world. It is hard to believe so much has happened and is happening, both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Amidst my own personal loss, the terror being inflicted on our communities, and the amazing organizing that is going on around, I am reminded how important it is to remember that we will not get through any of this on our own.

I am not going to lie, trying to hunker down this month to finish this book has been difficult. Not only am I super social and distractible, but we are in the midst of packing up our house in preparation for our move at the end of the month, I'm trying to plan out my travel for the year, and our government keeps doing things that make me want join you all at every public action possible

Well my friends, halle-effing-lujah and praise the sweet baby Jesus, because my January hibernation month is over. Last week I sent over the manuscript for the Advent devotional, Possibility: An Advent Journey with the Prophet, Priest, Pastor, & Poet, and this evening BOOM the manuscript for Prophets, Priests, Pastors, & Poets: Being and Becoming the Resurrected Christ has been turned in. NGL, January was a tough month to finish this thing, so much so that I actually hope that some parts do not age well.

From the preface . . .

In all honesty this has been a difficult book to write, not because I do not care about Jesus, I do *whew* but because it is difficult to hole away, sit down, and focus on what feels like a detached and futile endeavor while our country's socioeconomic and political chasms are widening, countless people are being subjected to government-sponsored terror, and people of faith and privilege like me are being called to the street. I wish this were just another example of drama and hyperbole, but at the completion of this book, about a year into the second presidential term of Donald Trump, the number of truly horrifying events that have taken place over that time would be comical if it were not so tragic.

In any case, this is just the first step, the biggest step, but just the first. There is much editing to do, and I still have to finish Beckon: Our Lent Journey with the Prophet, Priest, Pastor, & Poet. The book and first devotional are due out sometime in the fall. I will let folks know when pre-ordering is open. If you want to stay in the loop, sign up for the Chalice Newsletter at the bottom of my author page.

DRAFT COVERS (NOT FINAL)

That's it. Thanks for hanging around and being patient while I've been on hiatus. I have a few more ideas and will write more newsletter copy now that I'm back. Stay tuned!

Peace,

This newsletter is one way I contribute to the household so, for as little as $1/month, I hope a little extra access + other Paid Subscriber benefits will be worth it.
