As I have over the past 40+ days, this morning my body woke up again at 5:00am. Although there was no reason to do so, something was lovely about my body staying in rhythm with the 40-Day Fast for Gaza for just a few more days. The experience seeped into my bones, making me feel more connected to all those impacted by the genocide in Gaza and reinvigorated to keep pushing, doing all that I can to help bring about the end of it.
If you didn't keep up with my daily-ish updates, you can watch them via the 40-Day Fast for Gaza Playlist on YouTube, or view the compilation video below.
I few quick reflections about the fasting experience:
- I completely underestimated the toll that fasting from sunrise to sunset would take on my physical/emotional energy and productivity. I have always respected my those who observe Ramadan, but that respect has been multiplied ten-fold. How do you all get anything done?
- I am being gentle with myself as I ease back into a more regular eating, sleeping, and working rythym. TBH, having lunch is pretty nice.
- I found myself deeply moved by the practice of fasting. I have never really done it before, but I think I may do it again, maybe for Lent 2026. Anyone want to join me?
No, our demands were not met, but the constant pressures that so many have been placing upon our public servants, colleagues, and friends are starting to make a difference...and we must not stop now.
Thank you all for your patience with my lack of writing here over the past six weeks, but I will be back getting back on track over the next few weeks.
Peace,
