The + Friday + Five is a brief list of things I have found meaningful, challenging, joyful, soothing, or quirky from the week. The Original Friday Five was from my 2010's SF Gate’s City Brights blog. Enjoy.

Your Friday Five: 03.22.25

Yeah, kinda meta me talking about newsletters that I open via my newsletter, that I know just over 50% of you actually open (FTR: the open rate for The Amalgamation is a pretty steady 53%-55%). I am like most of you when I sign up for most newsletters. I have every intention of reading what folks send out, but more times than not, eventually the emails get caught up in the bulk [select all] + [archive] move until I have to search for an event or other information connected to a particular organization.

Still, I find myself drawn to a few for a variety of reasons: events, think pieces, recaps, etc. so I thought I would share five that I open on the regular.

Here we go . . .

ONE || Sacred Repro Updates

Spiritual Alliance of Communities for Reproductive Dignity (SACReD) puts out a monthly update that is packed with resources that I make to scan around faith and Reproductive Justice. Included are trainings, webinars, resources, and so much more.

TWO || Religious New Service Morning Report

As one who likes to amplify and share important news and happenings in the world of faith, Religious News Service (RNS) is my go-to organization. Their daily Morning Report is a must-read for me as it contains trustworthy articles about faith and topics from a faith perspective. Full disclosure, we are also monthly donors.

THREE || PRRI Morning Buzz

The Morning Buzz from the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) comes out every few days with some great articles, especially if you love the numbers.

FOUR || Mission Local

If you are from San Francisco, are interested in San Francisco, or simply like collecting solid local news sources, Mission Local is a great one for San Francisco. Their daily newsletter is concise and informative; a perfect way to start the day, catch up on recent stories, or fact check some spilt tea from an overheard conversation from the night before.

FIVE || Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity

Okay, this is still California-based, (and I am on the Board), but even before I was involved as deeply, I always read the newsletter blasts from Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity. (IM4HI) because they have a pulse on what is happening around immigration, incarceration, and public policy issues across the state. From calls to pack courtrooms, to show up at the state capitol, or to pilgrimage to close detention centers, IM4HI keeps me connected to all of the places that I need to stay connected to.

Peace,

PERPETUAL Pledge Drive 😄

As a full-time itinerant speaker and writer, I rely on the generosity of friends, family, and strangers to support my work. Your financial gifts help me to engage in projects and actions that would not be possible if I were entirely tied to a congregation or organization. If you find what I share in the world meaningful, please consider becoming a paid subscriber.
There is a sliding scale that begins at $1/month.

From the Camera Roll: This past week, we managed to find a time when the offspring could all be in one place. With three adult children, this is not a small task. Towards the end of the week, a few of us spent the day at Universal Studios in California. Answer me this, "When did most of the rides become life-sized motion sickness-inducing video games 🤢 ?" One, okay. Two, fine. Three, whatever, But, four +, nope.

Back in my day *harumph* *harumph* one just hopped into the roller coaster and prayed to the Lord God Almighty that the harnesses held and that the high schooler in control of our lives was paying attention. Ahh, the good ol' days.

Taken at the beginning of the day when we all were still happy. I promise, despite the face, the three-year-old was indeed happy.
